HANOVER, Va. (Aging Untold) — An 86-year-old volunteer in Virginia is helping Habitat for Humanity by taking apart donated electronics and appliances for recycling. Marshall Johnson helps keep the recycling program running at the Hanover and King William Habitat for Humanity store. The program relies on donations of gently used electronics and appliances. Johnson has worked as a handyman for most of his life. “Well, I always enjoy seeing how things are made because all my life I’ve been in our factories and seen all the pieces, parts that go into power tools and appliances,” Johnson said. From product design to recycling Johnson previously worked as a product designer for appliance companies, including Black Decker and Home Depot. His designs are on display at the Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington, Delaware. “I’m just innately curious about, how do people make things?” Johnson said.
